I joined the Ready Player Read(athon) hosted on the SFF Oasis Discord and I wanted to see if I could get a blackout. Some banter in the channels also motivated me to go for it, so I switched out books to make it easier. Shorter books, more novellas, three graphic novels (the max allowed). I still crossed off a lot of books from my TBR despite picking other books.
Clearing my board meant I earned 630 points for Team Paragon! As of writing this, I know of one other participant who cleared their board (go Kit!) but they’re in another team (boo!). I have no idea how the other teams are doing point-wise but I consider this a win, a personal victory.
I couldn’t have done this without my Scribd subscription. I loved listening to audiobooks and I managed to read some of the books on my TBR that I didn’t own. My trial ends in August but I know for sure I’ll sub again in the future. The list with books saved is loooooong so I’d like to knock a few more off before it ends, but I know I won’t get to them all. Next time!
Another thing I noticed is that throughout the month, I’ve become more focused. It’s easier now to pick up a book, focus on blog work, or edit, instead of doom scrolling or Youtube distractions. I hope this will continue and I can read more, write/edit more, and be able to focus more on daily tasks.
