The price of freedom is always paid in blood.

The sovereigns of the Silver have awakened, but the Queen is a fractured shell of the woman Cam remembers. He hopes to put her back together by finding her son, the missing prince. At least, that’s what he tells his friends when he leaves for the Red.

Back in the Blue, Julia’s old tormentor Rufus is hounding her at every turn. She’s sick of feeling powerless, but she has a plan that will bring the Nobles to their knees.
All she needs is blood.

The Blood Prince is the final book in Josie Jaffrey’s Sovereign trilogy, set in a dystopian Europe where vampiric Nobles control the last remnants of the human race.

The Blood Prince by Josie Jaffrey is the last instalment in the Sovereign series. We still follow the points of view from Julia and Cameron as they rebel against the status quo. The return of the Queen hasn’t done the Blue any good since the loss of her son hurts her bad. Cameron is adamant about finding him. Julia wants to know more about her parents and wants the contamination to spread. They travel to the Red together and become unlikely allies with a common goal.

It’s clear that Julia has changed since we first met her in The Gilded King. She’s no longer the Server with dreams. She knows her reality and isn’t afraid to face it head-on. I do feel Cameron has stayed much the same, but what can you expect from a centuries-old vampire? His changes are subtle and slow, but once he shows them, it’s beautiful. Cameron and Felix are the most adorable couple and Josie managed to turn my biggest turn-off (the German language) into something sweet.

Maybe it’s because it’s the last book in the series, but this one has a much higher body count than the other two. The battles are nicely written and are more realistic than anything in most fantasy books, series or films. They aren’t long or fancy. They’re often short and bloody since there will be only one left standing. There will be deaths on both sides.

I finished The Blood Prince in one day and I kept looking at the progression bar. I didn’t want it to end, but I also really want to know how it ends. Up until the last pages, things could’ve gone either way and I’m glad Josie picked this ending. The only thing that struck me as odd was the relationship between the Queen and the Empress. It felt too sudden, but it might be me not remembering the other books as good as I wanted.

The Blood Prince will release on the 20 February so preorder on Amazon now or wait a day for regular purchase. Don’t forget to follow Josie Jaffrey on Twitter to hear more about the stories set in the same universe.

About Josie Jaffrey

I have always written stories, but it wasn’t until I started the first book in the Solis Invicti series in 2014 that I really became obsessed with writing. I love to read, particularly where the escapism of the story is enhanced with an element of fantasy or science fiction. For me, writing is simply an extension of that journey, but I get to decide what happens next (though it’s amazing how often the characters seem to decide for themselves what I’m going to write!).

These days, bookishness has expanded to fill my life. I write novels and short stories (mostly Young Adult and Paranormal Romance), I blog and vlog about writing and the publication process, and I run a book review website called The Gin Book Club, which posts monthly video reviews.
