Over fifty years have passed since Daleth the seemingly immortal Witch-King, and his army conquered the Ember Kingdom.
Now, with the once fertile lands and its enslaved people dying around him, the Witch-King, driven by his insatiable thirst for eternal youth, prepares his forces to march on the prosperous neighbouring Freestates. It will be the beginnings of a conquest that could destroy nations, bringing death and destruction on an unimaginable scale.
Then, when a peasant huntress whose rare gift was concealed from birth is exposed, it sets in motion a chain of events that could alter the destiny of generations to come.
Thank you to The Write Reads for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review by taking part in the blog tour. Unfortunately, I’ve been ill and not be able to read as much as I wanted, so I’m doing a first impression instead of a review. A full review might come later. By taking part in this blog tour, I also forfeit my chance to read and score Kings and Daemons for BBNYA.
Reading the first chapters of the book gave me a clear idea this was going to be much darker than I expected. There’s zero kindness besides the love Maya and her father share. For the rest, it’s all pure survival. We’re following multiple characters throughout their journey, as one can expect in the fantasy genre. There is a lot of talk about the war and having a Witch King as a prominent character, I suspect a few epic battles will take place before the end of the book.
If adventurous, darker fantasy is your thing, Kings and Daemons by Marcus Lee might be a good choice.
Great post!
